Set in spring 1935 New England, Fefu and Her Friends by María Irene Fornés unfolds within the domestic yet ideologically charged space of Fefu’s home. As the women gather to rehearse for a fundraising event, the audience witnesses deep, complex conversations and moments of vulnerability among a group of highly educated, fiercely independent women. These characters—each at a different point in their journey toward liberation—challenge traditional gender roles and reflect the early currents of second-wave feminism. My costume design emphasizes individuality and inner strength, using character-specific silhouettes and textures to convey personal narratives. A natural, earthy color palette grounds the heightened emotion of the script, creating an atmosphere of intimacy and realism that invites the audience into their world.
